I’ve been toying with the idea of taking some classes at the local JC recently. Mostly just for the hell of it as opposed to working towards a degree.
Okay, “for the hell of it” isn’t quite right. Perhaps “because I want to learn something new” is more accurate.
Anyway, we got a Summer/Fall course catalog from Chabot College in the mail last week. I think I’m going to take one of the evening photography courses starting in August. I may try to take a comp-sci class as well, but I didn’t see anything that interested me that I know I can fit in around my work schedule. Perhaps I should discuss that with my employer…
I’m not going to be a full-time student, but I will be learning something new, and that is a good thing. š
I started a distance learning course in Archaeology last September and have absolutely loved it. I did have to write essays which I had not done for ages but it was challenge and after it was done, very satisfying. It is always good to learn something new. Just make sure you are doing something you enjoy then you will stick with it. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Thanks ethal,
Actually, your entries about the Archaeology course are what I think got me started wanting to do this. I’ve just been thinking about it a lot more recently, and now I have a plan.
I just called the place I took a graphic design course from after High School to get a copy of my transcripts sent to me. I’ll need them for the registration process. Since I have taken classes at Chabot previously, (through a concurrent enrollment program when I was in High School,) the registration/enrollment process is a little simpler than a first-time student. Not that the process is that difficult to start with. š
I’ve decided I’m going to try to get in to the Monday night session, since Tuesdays are one of the evenings Jenny and I spend cleaning/doing laundry, and I’ll be more likely to skip class sessions if they’re held Saturday mornings, (as I like to try to sleep in when I can.)
Gonna take some more Pascal classes? š I hear the JC’s are raising the tuition but it’ll still be rediculously cheap, I’m sure. Ah yes, Chabot, my other alma mater.
Simpsone sighs wistfully
Uhm, no. :p If I do end up taking a comp-sci class, it would probably be one of the *nix admin courses, as I’m not as comortable with *nix systems as I’d like to be. Or maybe a programming class that can be applied to web technology (java, perl, php, or some such)
That pascal class was good as an intro to programming, but I haven’t used the language since taking the final.
