(almost) the iPod I’ve been waiting for

The new iPod Touch looks like a good upgrade to my 60GB 5th Gen iPod. I’ve been waiting for a multi-touch interface iPod to come out since the iPhone was announced (well, technically since before that.) AND it comes with WiFi and mobile Safari and and and…

I’ve got just over 40GB of songs and videos on my current iPod, And I still have a bunch of CD’s that I’ve yet to get around to importing. A copy of entire iTunes library (and then some) is stored there. If I were to get even a 16GB iPod touch, I’d have to start managing what I have synched, and thats even before I start buying things with the WiFi iTunes Music store.

Maybe I’m lazy, but I think I’ll just wait for a higher capacity iPod touch. That being said, if one of these were to make their way into my life as a birthday and/or Christmas present, I’d happily make room for it. 🙂

  1. The iphone format is slick looking, as is the whole ipod family. That said two major speedbumps still prevent me from buying one. 1. Itunes SW and the ipod file system, 2. non-replaceable battery.

I did however buy one for Sarah, and recently my mom. My mom seems to grok itunes, so that’s something I guess.

  2. I haven’t used it myself, but I have a couple of friends that recommend MediaMonkey if you’re not a fan of iTunes. There are also other apps out there that can deal with the iPod file system. (I’m feeling lazy. Google: Oracle of the Internetâ„¢ should be able to help you find them easy enough if you’re curious.)

The non-replaceable battery is another thing all together. You can send your iPod in for servicing to get the battery replaced if it becomes an issue – but personally, I haven’t had any problems with mine. Granted, most of the time I’m listening to the iPod during my commute, so it’s connected to an iTrip Auto and drawing power form my car. There are also a couple of after-market iPod battery/disk replacement places I’ve come across in my online wanderings. Again, consult the Oracle for guidance.
