I just downloaded and burned a copy of Knoppix.
Basically it’s a version of linux desiged to be run off of a CD – no installation needed.
I’m now running a KDE desktop and writing this entry from within Konqueror. When I’m done, I just shut down, pop out the CD and boot back into Windows.
neato.
Wow! When I get back gonna have to look at that. … Away at moment ๐ … Kinda off to bed need to be up at 7am.
Its a big download. The ISO file is 712 MB – I love my T3 connection…
I downloaded it and tried it on a few generic compaqs at work, it came up just fine – but on my redhat machine which can see all three NICs, the knoppix boot cd can’t bring them up in KDE, although it does register their existence in the preliminary boot screens. Kinda hard to use ethereal when all you’ve got to work with is local loopback. ๐
If I could solve that small problem then a knoppix CD would join my other tools I carry in my pockets every day. It’s a slick package.
add’s his moniker just to remind himself to give this a go…

I did want to say, Hool, it must be really cool seeing as how you posted it twice!
