Look Ma, no Windows!

So, I had to go buy a PC serial cable to hook up an external 56k modem salvaged from the bottom of my “obsolete” hardware box. (That would be all the crap from old computers I’ve never recycled or thrown out.)

A few clicks around in the network configuration tool, and I have established a dialup connection on the Linux side of my dual-boot system. I’m feeling quite proud of myself. 🙂

Now I just have to figure out what I want to do next…

  1. And the screenshot to prove it…

Edit: uhm, yeah. So I Iet the registration for hooloovoo.net expire at netsol. I had been planning to switch registrars anyway, but forgot to get it done before netsol yanked my domain. So hooloovoo.net is down until I get everything switched over.

Good thing I have another place to stick images…

    is a dope…

  2. I can’t seem to get into Linux. I mean, I have it on my laptop (Mandrake 9), but I always seem to head back to my FreeBSD dev box with pure KDE (not the crap that Redhat has in 8.0). I’ve worked on real Unix boxen at work, so I guess FreeBSD seems more comfortable to me. Linux seems to confound me, especially installing new apps or upgrading (though Ximian’s Red Carpet is pretty neat). FreeBSD has pkg_add and the ports system with over 8000 ports in it.

One thing I’ve noticed is both KDE and Gnome have a hardon for blue. Icons, backgrounds, you name it. I spent the good part of a night making a new theme that wasn’t blue. (not that I hate blue, but there is a point where too much is too much 🙂 ).
