Okay, so I like have this GLUE theme, right? And it’s like, totally based on my website and stuff.
Well, see – I’m like trying to do the layout without resorting to tables – cuz I totally did it that way on my site, but – like, I might have to, you know, NOT do it that way, since we need these things to look good in IE and stuff. Unless I can, like, totally find a killer way to make it work, I’ll like, end up putting the left and right columns into a table so we don’t end up with those totaly bogus margin problems in IE. You know, I can be like totaly – “what-ever dude” about it on my own site, but not here and stuff.
So anyway – here’s the first rough GLUE theme based on hooloovoo.net, but I still have a lot of work to do on it. The screen shot was taken with Mozilla.
Edit: I pulled the screenshots down, since the theme is now part of GLUE 1.0 RC1
(You don’t even want to see how IE mangles it.)

So, doesn’t anyone actually visit #gblog on irc.craplink.net?
I’ve been popping my head in there the last couple of days and it’s empty.

Could Hollywood hack your PC?: “Congress is preparing to consider a proposal that would authorize copyright holders to disable PCs used for illicit file trading–a step critics say amounts to vigilante justice.”
There’s a great quote about halfway through the article:
[Quote] “I think it’s wildly overreaching,” Litman said. “Copyright owners are in essence asking Congress to say that peer-to-peer file trading is such a scourge, is so bad, that stopping it is more important than enforcing any other laws that federal or state governments may have passed on computer security, privacy, fraud and so forth.”
Litman said that even if a copyright holder accidentally deleted a home video titled “Snow White,” the owner of that computer could be out of luck. “Unless I can show economic harm, I can’t even be compensated,” Litman said. “Even if I want to be compensated, I have to jump through procedural hoops.” [Quote]
Interesting…
“The connection was confused when trying to contact http://www.hoolooovoo.net”
I wonder what the hell is going on with my webhost

[Quote] PHP 4.2.2 is out: “The PHP Group has learned of a serious security vulnerability in PHP versions 4.2.0 and 4.2.1. An intruder may be able to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the web server. This vulnerability may be exploited to compromise the web server and, under certain conditions, to gain privileged access.

I tend to listen to CNET Radio in the mornings on my way to work. They also stream thier broadcast online, (www.cnetradio.com) which means I can listen to them in the office – since radio reception is not too good.
Anyway, thier about to do a segment on weblogs, I’m going to be calling in to talk about G-Blog.net
(I added this to the Art section to make sure it was near the top of the main page. In case the CNET folks take a peek while on the air.)
Update: I’m pulling this out of the Art section since Gossip has added something about it to the Announcements

It’s a web based channel guide. Not sure if it works out side of the US. One of the neat things about it is that you can license the technology from thier parent company to to build your own PVR. (personal video recorder).
I’m playing with a new feature for hooloovoo.net: Alternate Style Sheets. Right now the implementation only works on Mozilla, (or NS 6+… I think.) and the feature is only on the index page, and only the “Greys” style sheet is different from the default.
As soon as I’m done with the “Reds” and “Greens” versions, I’ll add the feature to the rest of the pages. Then I’ll set up a way for IE folks to choose alternate views. I know it’s possible — I’ve seen it work on other sites, I just havent’ researched that piece yet.
Update1- Blues, Reds, Greens, and Greys are all updated. Next up, multiple page implementation…
Update2- You can now choose an alternate style sheet on every page. Next up, getting the site to remember your choice…
Update3- I found a style sheet switcher on A List Apart. you can now use the “site-theme” box to change the style sheets… AND it sets a persistent cookie to remeber the preference, (which works when swithing styles using the veiw menu in Mozilla too.)

Leave it to Penny Arcade to, well – just go read it, I found it funny.
For a long time I’ve considered myself a Mac User stuck in a PC User’s body. When I was younger, the first computer in my home was a Macintosh Perfoma. (Well, actually it was a Commodore 64, followed by a Solaris PC clone of some sort, but the first computer I used to actually DO things with, like write reports and go online and such was a Mac.) And my High School Graduation presont was a Mac Powerbook.
When I spent WAY too much money on a Graphic Artist program at some trade school, we were on Macs. When I got my first REAL job in the computer industry, I had to start using PCs. (Thank god my roommate at the time had a Windows box.) The fact that most of the programs I was using on a daily basis work pretty much the same on PC as Mac (PhotoShop, Illustrator, etc) made the switch relativly painless. Because of this, the first computer I bought after I moved out of my parent’s house was a PC.
I now use a PC predominatly, (both at work and at home,) but I do have an iMac at work for testing purposes.
I’d like to have a Mac at home – as a second computer, (and a linux box as a third,) but I do so many more things with my PC, (not the least of which is play games,) that I wouldn’t want to switch over to one permanently. I want to use both, (or rather all three PC/Mac/Linux) each for it’s particular strengths.
I don’t understand why so many people feel it HAS to be one or the other.
