Rafting Photos

I got the first of my rafting photos back.

This set is from one of the professional photographers in the area. Basically, as you are going down the river, there are stations set up at some of the more popular rapids. A photographer snaps a few shots, and you can go look at proofs the next day. Order the ones you want, and they are mailed to you a few weeks later.

There are 3 companies that had photos of us. This one works digitally, so the turn-around time is much faster than the others — and you can view and order additional prints online.

This is from a series of 6 photos that were just delivered on CD-ROM. (I took the time to resize and upload them to my web server. If you want to see larger versions, let me know.) I’ll be creating an interface to view the others on my web site. However, I’ve re-named them in a logical fashion, so you can probably figure out the URIs for the others without too much work. 🙂

I’m in the back of the boat, on the side closest to the camera. The dude up in the air was the guide. He was toying with the idea of doing a back-flip into the river at the bottom of this rapid. He bailed at the last second.

  1. It was a blast. We’re already planning to do 2 trips next year. The south fork (probably just the lower half) which is class 2 and 3 rapids. And then later the middle fork which has class 4 and 5 rapids as well. (Helmet Required for those)

And I might be going sea kyaking in a week or two. whee!

  2. I’ve got even more respect for whitewater rapid guides. Sheesh, did he end up breaking anything? That looks like a wild ride in the photo you posted.

I thought about doing some river rafting, but I don’t think I want my noggin cracking a rock. Helmet or not! Hehe.

  3. The guide was a bit of a nutter, but he made sure we were having a blast. Next time we go, we’re definatley going to request him. (Assuming that he’s around next season.)

No, he didn’t break anything – probably becasue he knows the river so well. This was his 7th season, (I think.) It is a little disconcerting when your guide says: “Hey, I’m going to do a backflip at the bottom of this rapid… If you don’t hear me say anything, just keep paddling forward. I’ll catch up.”

Honestly, I think he was just trying to impress the bikini-clad female photographer. 🙂

  4. That pic is just wild. That guide in the air like that realy makes the shot. That looks like such fun. I haven’t gone ww rafting yet but it is on my list of things to do.
