Egad!

I decided to log into gmail and see if I could reproduce this problem. (Sorry Fox, working fine for me…)

I just noticed that I have 50 invites to give away – (well actually 200, since I have 4 gmail addresses)

I get the reasoning behind the invites, (a way to ramp up the user-base for testing in a slow, meterable way to avoid flooding the system while still in development – oh yeah and a great way to generate word-of-mouth marketing/hype…) but what am I going to do with 200 invites? At this point, all my friends and family that want a gmail account has one. When is Gmail going to exit beta, or even just open up registration to anyone that wants an account?

I’m just wondering…

One more reason I love G-Blog

There has been a LOT of buzz the last couple of days about Google’s new “nofollow” link attribute intended to combat comment spam, including discussions about why it won’t help or how to abuse it.

I’m not going to link to any of the discussions here, but they’re easy to find. I just wanted to point out that I’ve never been comment spammed on G-Blog. Why? Becuase G-Blog requires you to have an account before you can leave a comment on a blog here, and if a spammer felt it was worth it to do so, I’m sure they’d get marked as a ‘bozo’ pretty quickly.

Just wanted to say thanks again to Gossip for building such an awesome site. 🙂

What’s this? A Pyrimid Marketing Scheme?

I tend to trust UserFriendly so I clicked on a banner ad there that I would have ignored on just about ANY other website.

Now I’m probably just making things worse by taking the next step and posting this link: Get a free iPod

As I understand it, this is how it works:
1 Sign up for an account and pick which iPod you would like
2 Complete one of the site’s promotional offers
3 Refer 5 other people who must also complete 1 offer (and I assume, refer 5 of thier own people… and so on)
4 Have your selecetd iPod shipped to you

I’ve completed step 1. This post (with the link above) is my attempt at completing step 3. I haven’t decided which of the promotions is the least evil yet, so I’m holding off on setp 2.

Why am I doing this? Why the hell not?
