So what do you do when…

your current web-host doesn’t return your calls or email?

I’ve been trying all wekend to notifiy my current host for hooloovoo.net that I’m switching providers. I need to cancel my account, and have them remove entries for hooloovoo.net from thier DNS servers.

I’ve sent email, I’ve called and left messages. I’ve even filled out their stupid feedback from (which I suspect just sends an email.) I’m not sure what else to do.

This is beginning to piss me off.

A bit of color-theory, and an optical illusion:

http://www-bcs.mit.edu/people/adelson/checkershadow_illusion.html

I got that link via email this morning, along witht he following message:

It really messes with your head, but Square A and Square B are on the exact same shade of gray. You can take it in to Photoshop like I did if you don’t believe it.

So I did, and they are. I love stuff like this. There’s also a link to a page explaining what your eye is doing to create the effect.

Update: There’s also some other neat links on this page (including that checkered shadow illusion)

The joy’s of spam assassin

So I’ve got email coming into my new DreamHost accounts. Ithink some is still being routed to my old host, but I’m going to be working that out in the morning (10 or so hours from now).

I’ve already begon recieving spam – and I’m very glad that I installed spam assassin as Gossip suggested. If for no other reason than this:

SPAM: Hit! (0.8 points) BODY: Uses words and phrases which indicate porn (11)
SPAM: Hit! (2.1 points) BODY: Talks about opting in
SPAM: Hit! (1.8 points) BODY: Gives an excuse for why message was sent
SPAM: Hit! (1.5 points) BODY: Asks you to click below
SPAM: Hit! (1.3 points) BODY: I wonder how many emails they sent in error…

Looks like it’s working. 🙂

Way past my bedtime

Uhm – It’s about 3:00am my time, and after 4 hours, I’m just now getting back online after deciding tonight would be a good night to wipe my computer and re-install the OS.

Couldn’t get the stupid freaking modem to be detected properly… not to mention the 3 or 4 times the system has “forgotten” about other pieces of hardware.

[Quote] What do you MEAN there’s no nVidia chipset?! I just got done installing the drivers for that damn card… Hey, why isn’t my cd-rom drive working? [Quote]

It looks like I have everything mostly under control now. I can get online, and that’s all that really matters. I’ll worry about installing the rest of my essential software tomorrow night.

I think I may have found my reason to start playing JG regularly again…

I’ve basically been out of JG for the last few months. I’ve logged in a few times in the last couple of weeks, ran a couple of trannies, shot a couple of squids and then logged out. I haven’t seen anyone from my squad online with me since July or so.

Saturday afternoon I logged in to see what was going on, (right after browsing through the forums) and GM_Archon poped his head into help right as I was on my way from Tripoint to QC. He wanted to get some pilots together to try a game of dockball. (I had just read his post about it in the JG Forums)

BloodGod and I spoke up almost instantly, so we became team captians. Once I docked at QC, I hopped in the sim (and f5:dock) so we could figure out how things would work. We picked teams and ships and headed out into random asteroids. After a shakey start (RANGERS are fast, but ya need to be able to manouver as the docker) we participated in the offical game of DockBall.

It was a blast, even if I basically lost the game for my team. After the game, I decied I needed some practice, so I got hornet to come out into the sim and shoot at me as I tried to dock. I did about as well as in the game, but I’ve got a strategy I want to try out now.

I want to play again – but I’ll stick to being a Flanker/Striker untill I get some more practice docking in that sim.

Hell, I might even start up a Dockball Team Squad.
